I love the Silver Stage tours of This is Creative Enterprise! As part of our Fashion Enterprise course, that we provide various schools, we take students out on day trips to visit fashion businesses and entrepreneurs, for them to get a real understanding of what it’s like in the industry.
I previously blogged about the first trip here and this time, we took the other half of students out for another fashion fuelled day trip. We started the day at Pearman Photography. Laura Pearman, who has previously worked with the likes of Rankin, gave the students an insight into what it was like to run her own photography business and studio.
They got to view her work and sketchbooks, find out how she managed to get to where she is today and what life is like interning for one of the world’s best fashion photographers.
The students also got involved in making their own little promotional video for the studio too! Check them out here!
After Pearman Photography, off we hopped to Northumbria University, where the teachers gave us a full tour of their fashion department. Some of their top students showed us their current work and gave our students an idea of what it’s like to study fashion full time.
Our penultimate stop was Love Niche, where we met the fabulous fashion designer and entrepreneur Nisha Vedhara. The students quizzed her on everything from her inspirations for her designs, how she came to study at the same place as Jimmy Choo, through to her best sellers in her boutique.
Finally, we popped into the offices at Newcastle NE1, where they students got a sneak peek into what goes on behind the scenes at NE1′s Newcastle Fashion Week and what’s planned for this year!
Next up is their practical second day at Silver Stage, where they get to do some upcycling with the uber talented Charlotte Liddle.
