Don’t you love relaxing Sunday day trips out?! I needed a bit of a break so I was excited to head over to the beautiful Belsay Hall one Sunday, to check out their exhibit – Costumes from Austen.
The exhibit was housed within their hall and I was excited to see some famous outfits from the big screen. There was Dame Judi Dench’s dress from Pride & Prejudice, Hugh Grant’s from Sense & Sensibility and much more. To me, some were instantly recognisable.
Here’s Kate Beckinsale’s from Emma, designed by Jenny Beavan:
As I wondered through the rooms, I was hoping to spot one of my favourite pair of outfits from a Jane Austen film, and I was so excited that it had been included! It’s the bride and groom costume worn by Alan Rickman & Kate Winslet in Sense & Sensibility!
With period clothing all around me, I thought I’d get my own period style outfit – going for a little 60′s dress from H&M!
Finally, here’s the outfit you’ve all been waiting for – the star of the show itself. The shirt worn by Colin Firth in Pride & Prejudice! All bow to the legendary shirt!
“It was vital to think about how the costumes would look to modern eyes as well as bearing in mind, period accuracy. This was particular important for Darcy. As the romantic lead, he had to have costumes that emphasised his masculinity and made it easy to fall in love with him”
And fall in love with him, we did!
Ciao for now and thanks for reading! x
